about
We believe each home is a story. And it is the objects in a home that connect and combine, like words, to tell that story. By embracing a design process that encourages personal expression over conformity to fads, each Threadgate collection aims to create unique and inspiring objects that are not only the manifestations of a personal interest but can also be used to help tell the story of their new homes. By combining homeware, bags and clothing Threadgate allows you to take the story of your home with you where ever you go.
Threadgate was founded in Sydney in 2016 by designer and screen printer Gemma Threadgate.
Website by Patrick Mason.

PROCESS
Each Threadgate collection consists of classic garment cuts and basic home goods in unique colours and original textile designs aimed at providing practical clothing for practical people. We don’t work around a fashion calendar instead aim to design 1-2 collections a year and design items that are transeasonal that can be styled with other items to suit the climate.SUSTAINABILITY
We are committed to sustainability throughout the whole production process. We believe true sustainability in fashion is about designing good quality, classic pieces that will be worn from season to season. We practise slow fashion which means we mostly make to order and work with small numbers. This allows us to control and re make items when needed, eliminated dead stock and end of season sales.MANUFACTURING
All Threadgate pieces are designed and screen printed by designer Gemma Threadgate. Threadgate pieces are then cut and sewn locally in Sydney by Gemma and local makers. We believe in supporting local businesses and source materials locally as much as possible.PRINTING
We use water based screen printing inks free from hydrocarbon and white spirits. Screen printing does use a lot of water so printing and the amount of yardage to be printed is taken into consideration in the design process of each item. As Threadgate is made in small runs printing can be done when needed, eliminating dead fabric stock and wasted fabric and inks. We work with a local Sydney based screen printing studio to make our custom colours which allow us to mix inks as needed and pick up locally. -
laundry care
Our items are made using 100% natural fibres, which are breathable and do not hold odours like synthetic fibres do. Air items after each wear to limit the need to wash items. As washing machines and laundry detergents are all different we recommend hand washing all Threadgate items in a plant and mineral based laundry formula to insure items last season to season.
